The Iowa Department of Natural Resources plans to conduct prescribed burns this spring in Greene County on Dunbar Slough and Snake Creek Wildlife Management Areas.
Dunbar Slough is located one mile south and three miles west of Scranton. Snake Creek is located two miles north of Rippey.
Prescribed burns will normally be conducted during the months of March, April and May and during the hours of 9 am to 9 pm. Burns will be conducted on days that meet specific objectives and weather prescriptions as defined in each unit’s specific burn plan.
Prescribed burns are used to improve wildlife habitat, control invasive plant species, restore and maintain native plant communities and reduce wildfire potential. Persons who have any questions or concerns, or wish to be contacted on or before burn day, can contact DNR Wildlife biologist Josh Gansen at 515-432-2545. ~ courtesy of The Scranton Journal
